The trailer of HIT – The First Case movie is out. The two-and-a-half-minute trailer introduces Rajkummar as the best cop in the Homicide Intervention Team who is given the case of a missing girl. The investigation pushes him to the edge as he finds himself dealing with his past trauma.

Movie Story

The First Case is a faithful adaptation of a crime thriller of the same name made in Telugu by the same director in 2020. Somewhere in Rajasthan, a young woman disappears. Several suspects pop up as we go along. Was it a helpful cop who stops to offer her a ride as she stands by the side of her broken-down car? Or a classmate who first claims ignorance and then shows that he might know more? Or a bumptious college official? The case is handed over to Vikram, a bright HIT (Homicide Intervention Team) officer, who has a bad case of the shakes from an unresolved trauma (are there any other kinds?), and a determination to forge ahead regardless.

Movie Review

Hit: The First Case isn’t at par with Andhadhun, but isn’t very weak either. The premise of the movie is pretty strong and what adds the right flavor is Sailesh Kolanu’s screenplay. He is in no rush to tell you things because in his mind he is creating a franchise and he has a lot of time to tell his desires narrative. Now, I haven’t seen the original Telugu version, so I don’t know if the approach is the same as the filmmakers.

After two years Sailesh Kolanu made the Telugu original by the same name, he remakes his film in Hindi with a different set of actors and locations. Instead of Telangana, the police procedural now plays out in Rajasthan. Kolanu retains the character names, even the story except for an alteration in the climax. Given how quickly spoilers can get leaked for whodunits, this was an obvious modification. Vikram’s past trauma hasn’t been revealed here so expect more sequels to this story.

There is a woman who does something just to seek attention like she has no idea law is a thing, police officers conducting lie detector tests and narco tests on the same day. If that isn’t enough, there is a sudden change of heart between people who were legit fighting to kill each other 2 minutes ago. Also, every only keeps forgetting their accent and switching to normal Hindi all the time.
